Business Central consultant support for Texas companies from the Permian Basin to the Gulf Coast.

Texas firms looking for a Business Central consultant tend to be growing and spread across more than one site: an oilfield services company with yards in Midland and Odessa, a Houston distributor supplying refineries and chemical plants, a Laredo logistics business moving freight across the border, or an Austin software company that has outgrown its first accounting tool. Most of Texas keeps Central Time, while El Paso and Hudspeth County keep Mountain Time. We implement Business Central for Texas teams, move them off QuickBooks, Sage and older Dynamics products, and support the system after launch. Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio each have a city page with more detail.

One state, several very different economies

Texas behaves less like one market and more like five. The Permian Basin and the Eagle Ford run on oil and gas, with service companies renting equipment, dispatching crews and billing operators by the job. Houston adds refining, petrochemicals, a huge port and the NASA Johnson Space Center, which pulls in engineering and aerospace suppliers. Dallas and Fort Worth host corporate headquarters, banks, distribution hubs and a large aviation cluster.

Austin has become a software and semiconductor town, full of companies whose revenue is recurring and whose investors want clean monthly numbers. The border cities, especially Laredo and El Paso, handle a large share of trade with Mexico, which means customs brokers, freight forwarders, warehouses and manufacturers with plants on both sides. Out in the rest of the state, cattle, cotton and grain keep ranches, gins and feed suppliers busy.

Each of those businesses stresses an ERP in a different place. Our job as your consultant is to find where that stress lands for you, and set Business Central up to carry it.

Texas tax items your Business Central setup must respect

Comptroller-run sales tax

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts administers state sales and use tax. Cities, counties, transit authorities and special districts add local rates.

Local jurisdictions

We build each local layer as a tax jurisdiction and combine them into tax areas, so an order to Houston and one to Lubbock price correctly.

Franchise tax data

Texas franchise tax is based on margin. Business Central does not file it, but a clean chart of accounts gives your preparer revenue and cost figures fast.

Taxable services

Texas taxes certain services, data processing among them. Service items and resources need tax groups that reflect how Texas treats them.

When Business Central is the wrong call in Texas

  • โœ“Upstream operators who need joint interest billing and revenue distribution to royalty owners usually need a specialist oil and gas accounting system
  • โœ“Very large groups with complex global operations may be better served by Dynamics 365 Finance, which we compare openly
  • โœ“A single-location business with simple books and no inventory may be fine on QuickBooks for a while yet

Texas business owners ask us

Can Business Central handle our Mexican subsidiary?

It can, with some care. Business Central is available in Mexico, but the Mexican version and its electronic invoicing requirements are best handled with a local partner. A common design is a US company in Business Central with a Mexican entity whose results are consolidated. We plan that structure with you and your tax advisors before any build.

Our field tickets are still on paper. Can that change?

Yes, and it is often the biggest win for an oilfield services firm. Crews can capture tickets on a tablet through Power Apps or a field service add-on, and approved tickets flow into Business Central jobs for billing. The design depends on connectivity at your sites, so we plan for offline capture where needed. Faster ticket entry usually means faster invoicing and fewer disputes.

How do you handle Texas local sales tax rates?

We either maintain tax jurisdictions and tax areas in Business Central or connect a tax engine such as Avalara. For companies selling only within a few Texas cities, the built-in setup is manageable. For companies shipping statewide or into other states, the tax engine is usually worth it because it tracks rate changes and address boundaries. We help you choose on the scoping call.

Do you have consultants in Texas?

Our office is in Phoenix, and we deliver Texas projects remotely with on-site days by arrangement. Phoenix is one hour behind Central Time for most of the year, so morning sessions for your team are easy to set. Warehouse walkthroughs and large training groups are the usual reasons to travel. Those days go into the written scope.

We run several branches. Can each one see only its own data?

Yes, through permission sets, locations and dimensions. A branch manager can be limited to their location's inventory, orders and reports while finance sees everything. We design the security model with you rather than handing everyone full access. It is one of the checks we run before go-live.
