A Business Central consultant for New Mexico companies that have outgrown their books.

If you are searching for a Business Central consultant in New Mexico, you probably run a company where the accounting package stopped keeping pace with the operation some time ago. We set up Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for oilfield service firms, federal contractors, growers and regional distributors across the state. The work runs mostly by video from our Phoenix office, one time zone band away, and we travel when a site visit genuinely changes the design.

Why New Mexico books get complicated early

New Mexico does not have a sales tax in the usual sense. It has a gross receipts tax, which is imposed on the business for the privilege of doing business, even though most sellers pass it on to customers. The rate depends on where the sale is sourced, and it changes when cities and counties adjust their local portions. Firms that invoice across Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Farmington and the Permian towns end up juggling dozens of rates, and a spreadsheet of locations quietly drifts out of date.

The second pressure is job cost. A large share of New Mexico's private economy bills by the job or the contract: oilfield service crews in the southeast, engineering subcontractors around the national laboratories, construction firms, film production vendors. Those companies need cost by well, task order or project, not just a profit and loss. Entry-level accounting tools can fake that with classes, but the fake breaks the moment a controller wants committed cost against budget.

Sectors we see most from New Mexico

Oil and gas services

Crews, equipment and consumables billed per well or ticket in the Permian and San Juan basins, with field tickets that need to reach an invoice quickly.

Federal and lab contractors

Engineering, IT and facilities firms working near Los Alamos, Sandia and the bases, where contract, task and labor category drive every report.

Growers and food producers

Chile, pecan, dairy and specialty food businesses tracking lots, seasonal purchasing and sales to grocers in several states.

Regional distributors

Wholesalers supplying the state from Albuquerque, carrying stock in more than one location and delivering on their own trucks.

Things to bring to the first call

  • โœ“A list of every location you invoice into, including field towns where crews work for weeks at a time
  • โœ“Your current chart of accounts and the reports your owner or lender asks for each month
  • โœ“Any contract or job that makes the current system awkward, so we can test Business Central against the hard case first

How a New Mexico engagement runs

  1. 1

    Discovery by video

Short workshops with finance, operations and the field team. We write up what we heard and the gaps between Business Central and your process.

  2. 2

    Scope on paper

A written plan listing the modules, data, integrations and training days. Nothing is built until you agree it.

  3. 3

    Configuration and data

We configure the company, load masters and open items, and run your gross receipts reports against a real month.

  4. 4

    Testing with your people

Your staff post real transactions in a sandbox and sign off each process before cutover.

  5. 5

    Go-live and first close

We stay close through the first month end, then move to the support arrangement you choose.

Questions New Mexico owners ask us

Can Business Central calculate New Mexico gross receipts tax correctly?

Yes, provided the tax areas and jurisdictions are set up around where your sales are sourced. Business Central's standard US sales tax features handle multiple rates by location, and gross receipts tax fits that structure. The weak point is usually maintenance, not calculation, so we agree who updates rates and when. Companies with many delivery points often add a tax engine instead.

Do you have staff in Albuquerque or Santa Fe?

No. Our only office is in Phoenix, and New Mexico work is delivered remotely with on-site days planned into the scope. For most finance and sales processes, screen sharing is faster than travel. We suggest a visit when walking a yard, a warehouse or a field operation will change how we configure the system.

We bill oilfield work from field tickets. Can that flow into invoices?

It can, and it is one of the first things we design. Field tickets can be captured as job journal lines or sales documents, depending on whether you need job cost, and then invoiced in batches. If tickets start on a tablet app, we look at whether an integration or a Power Apps form is the cleaner route. The goal is fewer rekeyed tickets and a faster invoice.

Is Business Central suitable for a government contractor?

It handles project and job accounting well, and many small contractors run on it. What it does not do out of the box is every specialized cost accounting requirement a large federal contract may carry, such as incurred cost submissions in a prescribed format. We tell you honestly where the gap is and whether an extension, reporting or a different product fits better. That conversation happens before you buy licences.

How much will it cost?

We do not quote from a web page, because the answer depends on your modules, data and integrations. The scoping conversation produces a written plan with the price for that plan. Microsoft publishes Business Central licence pricing on its own site, and your partner quote should match it. Our pricing page explains how engagements are structured.
