Dynamics 365 Field Service

Field Service that gets the right technician to the job with the right part

Every return visit costs a truck roll and a customer's patience. We implement Dynamics 365 Field Service so jobs are scheduled against skills and location, technicians see the asset history on their phone, parts are tracked from van to invoice, and billing flows into the ERP the same day.

Where field operations leak time and money

In most service businesses the paperwork travels slower than the van. Jobs are booked by phone into a whiteboard or a spreadsheet, technicians arrive without the service history, parts are used but not recorded, and the invoice goes out a week later, if the job sheet makes it back to the office at all.

Dynamics 365 Field Service connects those steps. A case or a maintenance plan creates a work order, the schedule board suggests the best technician by skill, location and availability, the mobile app carries the checklist, asset history and parts list, and a completed job posts parts, time and charges back to finance.

What we set up

Work orders

Created from cases, from maintenance agreements or by hand, with incident types that pre-fill tasks, parts and duration.

Scheduling

A schedule board with skills, territories and travel time, and optimisation for companies with enough jobs to need it.

Mobile app

Technicians see jobs, directions, checklists, customer assets and history on phone or tablet, and work offline where signal is poor.

Parts and inventory

Van and warehouse stock, parts used on the job and returns, reconciled with inventory in Business Central.

Assets and agreements

Customer equipment, service history and preventive maintenance plans that generate work orders on schedule.

Billing

Completed work orders turn into invoices in the ERP with labour, parts and travel, without re-keying.

How the rollout runs

  1. 1

    Ride along

We spend time with dispatch and a technician to see how a job really runs, including the workarounds.

  2. 2

    Design

Incident types, territories, skills, agreements and the ERP hand-off agreed in writing.

  3. 3

    Build and pilot

Configuration, mobile app setup and a pilot with a small crew running live jobs.

  4. 4

    Roll out

Remaining technicians trained on the app in short sessions, dispatch trained on the board.

  5. 5

    Tune

After a month we review first-time fix rates, travel and billing lag with you and adjust.

Field Service questions

Do technicians need a laptop?

No. The Field Service mobile app runs on iOS and Android phones and tablets, and keeps working offline, syncing when the device is back in signal.

Can it work with Business Central?

Yes. Microsoft provides an integration between Field Service and Business Central for items, customers, work order posting and invoicing.

Is it only for large fleets?

No. Teams of a handful of technicians benefit from work orders, the mobile app and billing; advanced schedule optimisation starts to pay off with larger fleets.
