Utah industries that bring us Business Central projects
Software and SaaS
Recurring invoices, deferred revenue, and board packs that need the same numbers every month. Business Central plus Power BI gives finance one source for all three.
Supplements and personal care
Lot numbers, expiration dates, co-manufacturers and sales through Amazon and web stores. Item tracking and tracing support a fast answer when a batch is questioned.
Outdoor and recreation brands
Item variants for size and color, seasonal buys, dealer orders alongside direct sales, and returns that spike after the holidays.
Construction, mining and materials
Job costing on projects, heavy equipment as fixed assets, and purchasing from suppliers across the Intermountain West.
Scaling up without rebuilding the books
Utah's fast-growing companies tend to hit the same wall. The business raises money or takes on a lender, an audit becomes necessary, and the spreadsheet that consolidated two entities now has to consolidate four. At the same time, sales channels multiply: a wholesale account here, a marketplace there, a subscription offer on the website.
Business Central handles that stage well. Each legal entity can be its own company with shared setup, intercompany postings can flow automatically, and consolidation produces group statements without a weekend of copy and paste. Dimensions let you report by product line, channel or department without multiplying general ledger accounts.
The hard part is not the software; it is deciding early how the business wants to see itself. We spend real time on the chart of accounts and dimension design with your controller or fractional CFO, because changing those later is painful. If your plans point toward complexity that Business Central will not carry, we say so and show you the alternatives.
What a Utah Business Central project looks like, step by step
- 1
Discovery on video
Short sessions with finance, operations and sales to map how orders, fulfillment and month end run today.
- 2
Design you sign off
A written design covers the chart of accounts, dimensions, integrations and reports, plus what is out of scope.
- 3
Connect your channels
Shopify, Amazon, a 3PL or a payment platform are linked and tested with real sample orders.
- 4
Migrate and reconcile
Customers, vendors, items, open items and balances move across and are tied out with your team.
- 5
Launch and stay close
Go-live avoids your peak season, and the same consultants support the first closes.
Utah tax points we raise at kickoff
- โSales and use tax is administered by the Utah State Tax Commission, with local and county rates layered on by location
- โUnprepared food is taxed at a reduced combined rate, so grocery-type items need their own tax group
- โCompanies selling into many states usually connect a tax engine such as Avalara instead of maintaining rates by hand
Utah companies usually ask
We sell on Shopify and Amazon. Can Business Central keep up?
Yes, with the right connectors. Microsoft's Shopify connector links orders, customers, items and inventory, and AppSource offers Amazon connectors from several vendors. We decide which system owns each field, how often data syncs and how errors surface before building. That planning prevents most of the headaches companies have with marketplace integrations.
Do supplement makers need extra software for lot control?
Usually not for the basics. Business Central's item tracking covers lot numbers, expiration dates and forward and backward tracing out of the box. Formal quality management, such as sampling plans or certificates of analysis, may need an add-on or a separate quality system. We look at your regulatory and customer requirements before recommending either.
Our startup uses QuickBooks Online. Is it too early to switch?
It may be. If you have one entity, little or no inventory and a small finance team, QuickBooks can serve you for a while yet. The usual triggers for moving are multiple entities, real inventory, audit requirements or reporting that lives in spreadsheets. We will tell you honestly if waiting is the better call.
Can we see a demo using our own data?
Yes, a scoped demo with a sample of your items and customers is often part of the first steps. It shows your team what daily work would look like rather than a generic tour. We agree what goes into the demo during the scoping conversation. It is a practical way to test fit before committing to a full project.
