What an automotive supplier needs from Business Central
A tier two or tier three supplier lives by its customer's schedule. Releases arrive by EDI, shipments must carry advance ship notices, and a late or short delivery can cost more than the parts themselves. Business Central does not speak EDI on its own, so we connect it to an EDI provider or AppSource connector, and we design how releases become sales orders or blanket order lines before anything is built.
On the shop floor, production BOMs, routings and work centers give you capacity and cost visibility. Item tracking with lot numbers supports containment when a customer raises a quality concern, and item tracing shows which shipments used a suspect lot. Some documentation that automotive customers expect, such as formal PPAP packages, usually stays in a quality system; we are clear about that boundary early so nobody is surprised during testing.
Distributors in Memphis face a different kind of pressure: volume. Warehouse receipts, directed put-away and pick, and shipment documents grouped across orders keep a busy dock moving. The setup choice between basic and advanced warehousing is one of the biggest decisions in any Tennessee distribution project, and we walk through it with the people who actually run the floor.
Tennessee tax and compliance points to settle during setup
- โSales and use tax administered by the Tennessee Department of Revenue, with local option rates added by counties and cities
- โTax areas built from ship-to addresses, so a delivery to a different county picks up the right local rate
- โFranchise and excise tax returns prepared by your tax advisor from clean entity-level books, which is why legal entities map to separate companies
- โNo state tax on wage income, so payroll integration mainly carries federal withholding and benefits back into the ledger
- โResale and industrial machinery exemption certificates stored against the customers and purchases they cover
- โUse tax accrued on purchases from out-of-state vendors who did not charge Tennessee tax, reviewed before each return

Tennessee companies often want to know
We are on Dynamics GP in Knoxville. Should we move now?
Planning now is sensible, because Microsoft has announced the end of support for Dynamics GP and a rushed move is always more expensive in stress. We map your GP modules, customizations and third-party add-ons to Business Central equivalents. Open items and balances come across cleanly, and you choose how much history to bring. Our GP end of life guide explains the dates and options in detail.
Can Business Central manage several Tennessee companies under one owner?
Yes, each legal entity becomes its own company inside one Business Central environment. Intercompany transactions can post automatically between them, and consolidation produces combined statements. This also keeps franchise and excise records separate per entity, which your tax advisor will appreciate. We design the chart of accounts once and share it across companies.
Do you work with health care businesses in Nashville?
Yes, on the business side: management companies, billing services, suppliers and practice groups that need accounting, purchasing and reporting. Business Central is not an electronic health record or clinical billing system, and patient data should stay in the systems built for it. What it does well is the ledger, payables, allocations across locations and management reporting. We will say plainly if a request belongs in a clinical system instead.
Will you come on site?
When it helps, yes. A plant walk or warehouse tour can change a design, and classroom training for a large team works better in person. Most of the rest runs well on video with screen sharing. Any on-site days are listed in the written scope so there are no surprises.
