Barrels, parts and parcels: three Kentucky inventory problems
A distillery's inventory is valued for years before it earns a dollar. Each barrel carries its fill date, proof, warehouse location and cost, and that cost grows as warehouse overhead is added over the aging period. Business Central can model barrels as lot-tracked or serialized items, move them between rickhouses, and revalue them, but the design must be agreed with your accountant first. Federal excise and bonded warehouse records add another layer, often handled by a distillery-specific add-on connected to Business Central.
Automotive suppliers face the opposite problem: stock that must move constantly. Customer releases, just-in-time deliveries and returnable containers call for EDI, planning and precise shipping. Logistics and fulfillment firms near the Louisville and Northern Kentucky air hubs need warehouse speed above all.
The same product serves all three. The difference is in which features you switch on, and a consultant who has thought through that choice before configuration starts.

Kentucky questions about Business Central
Can Business Central value aging bourbon inventory correctly?
Yes, with a deliberate costing design. Barrels are tracked as lots or serials with their fill date and location, and warehouse and carrying costs are added through revaluation or capitalized overhead as your accountant directs. We model a year of aging in a sandbox before go-live. Excise and bonded reporting usually comes from a distillery add-on.
Is Business Central a good fit for an auto parts supplier in Kentucky?
For small and mid-sized suppliers, generally yes. Planning, production, EDI through a provider and advance ship notices cover the core. Very high volume sequencing or plant-floor execution systems may sit beside it. We map your customer requirements before recommending anything.
Do you travel to Kentucky?
Occasionally, when a rickhouse, plant or warehouse visit makes the design better. Those days are agreed and written into the scope. Most of the project runs remotely over video from our Phoenix office. That arrangement suits Kentucky clients on both Eastern and Central time.
We still run Dynamics GP. When should we move?
Planning now is sensible, because Microsoft has announced the end of GP support and a rushed move is expensive. We map GP modules and third-party products to Business Central equivalents. Open items and balances migrate, and we agree how much history to bring. Our GP end-of-life guide lays out the dates Microsoft has published.
