Production BOMs and routings, work and machine centers, subcontracting and capacity planning are part of the Premium edition, and most Ohio plant projects need Premium. We design the costing method with your controller first, because standard cost, average cost and FIFO each change how variances show up at month end.
Supplier work has its own demands. Customers send releases and forecasts through EDI, expect advance ship notices and label formats, and audit traceability from raw material to finished part. Business Central handles item tracking and planning natively; EDI usually runs through a specialist provider connected to Business Central. We decide early which documents must flow electronically and which can stay manual for now, so the first go-live does not carry every wish.

How does Business Central handle Ohio sales tax?
Ohio sales tax combines a state rate with county permissive rates, administered by the Ohio Department of Taxation. Business Central models that with tax areas for each county combination, attached to customers and ship-to addresses. Manufacturers often buy materials exempt and need exemption handling on purchases too. Larger sellers often connect Avalara to keep rates current.
What about the Commercial Activity Tax?
The Ohio CAT is a tax on gross receipts that your company files; it is not charged on invoices. Business Central does not calculate the CAT, but it can report gross receipts by the categories your accountant needs. We set up the chart of accounts and dimensions so that report is a filter, not a project. Your tax adviser confirms the treatment.
Can you move us from Dynamics NAV?
Yes, NAV to Business Central is one of the most common migrations we run. The data structures are closely related, which helps, but customizations need a fresh look because old code does not carry over as is. We sort each customization into standard feature, AppSource app, small extension, or retire. Our NAV migration page explains the choices.
Do we need Premium or is Essentials enough?
Most Ohio manufacturers need Premium because production orders and routings are Premium features. Assembly orders are in Essentials and suit kitting and light assembly. Distributors and service firms usually run well on Essentials. We confirm the edition during scoping so you do not buy more than you use.
Will you visit our plant?
When it adds value, yes, and we plan it into the written scope. Our office is in Phoenix and most of the work runs by video. A floor walk is worth the trip for complex routings, warehouse layouts or classroom training. Otherwise screen sharing gets decisions made faster.
