Why Missouri sales tax needs a careful design
Missouri sales and use tax is administered by the Missouri Department of Revenue, but the state rate is only the start. Cities, counties and special taxing districts such as transportation development and community improvement districts can each add their own layer. Two customers a few blocks apart can owe different totals.
Business Central handles this with tax jurisdictions combined into tax areas. Each jurisdiction carries its own rate and reporting code, and each customer ship-to address points to the area that applies. It works well, but someone has to keep those rates current. Companies delivering to many Missouri addresses, or selling into several states, often connect Avalara so rates are looked up automatically at the moment of invoicing.
Use tax deserves attention too. Missouri businesses buying equipment or supplies from out-of-state sellers that did not charge tax owe use tax on those purchases. We set up the purchase side so that tax is accrued automatically instead of discovered during an audit.

St. Louis and Kansas City: different starting points
Missouri questions, answered
We operate in both Missouri and Kansas. Can Business Central handle that?
Yes, it handles multiple states in one company or separate legal entities in several companies. Tax areas are set per ship-to address, so Kansas and Missouri sales each carry the right tax. If the two sides are separate legal entities, intercompany postings and consolidation give you combined reporting. We decide the structure with your accountant before configuring anything.
Is Business Central a fit for an aerospace machine shop?
It is a good fit for many small and mid-sized aerospace suppliers. Lot and serial tracking, production orders with routings, and jobs for contract costing are all standard. Certificates of conformance and first article reports usually come from a quality system or document tool linked to Business Central. We identify those gaps in the written scope.
Do you have an office in Missouri?
No, our office is in Phoenix, and Missouri work is done remotely. Video workshops, screen-shared configuration and online training cover almost everything. When a warehouse walk or plant floor session is worth it, we plan a trip. The scope spells out which activities are remote and which are on site.
Can you keep Missouri local tax rates up to date for us?
We can set up the structure, but rate maintenance is best automated. Business Central stores rates in its tax jurisdictions, and someone must update them when they change. A connected tax engine removes that chore by calculating tax from the address at invoice time. We help you decide which approach fits your volume.
