Aviation quality and Business Central: where the line sits
Wichita's aerospace suppliers ask the same question early: can Business Central carry our quality system? The honest answer is that Business Central records serials, lots, routings, outside operations and inspection steps well. Full aerospace quality management, with nonconformance workflows, first article inspection reports and certificate handling for every lot, typically comes from an AppSource quality add-on or a separate quality system linked to Business Central.
Customer-owned tooling and consigned material also need a design decision, because they sit in your building but not on your balance sheet. We model them as non-inventory items or separate locations depending on how your customers audit them.
Kansas tax and geography items for your design
- โKansas sales tax is administered by the Kansas Department of Revenue, and cities and counties add their own local rates
- โKansas City metro companies often sell on both sides of State Line Road, so Kansas and Missouri rules both apply
- โAgricultural and manufacturing exemptions are recorded against customers and items with certificates kept on file
- โA few western counties on the Colorado border run on Mountain Time, which affects shipping and cutoff times
- โOil and gas firms often need severance tax and royalty reporting outside Business Central, posted in as journals
- โFirms shipping widely usually add Avalara so rates follow the ship-to address automatically
Common Kansas questions
Can Business Central handle catch weight for beef or meat products?
Not fully out of the box: standard Business Central tracks one unit of measure per transaction line. Selling by actual weight while counting by case usually needs an AppSource catch-weight add-on or a careful design with alternate units. We test that design with your real product before committing. It is one of the first items in a meat processor's scope.
We are an oil field service company. Does Business Central fit?
It fits the accounting, job costing, equipment and inventory side of a service company well. Jobs track revenue and cost per customer, lease or well, and fixed assets handle rigs and trucks. Joint interest billing and production accounting for operators are specialist areas usually handled by energy-specific software. We map which side of the line you are on.
Do you have staff in Kansas?
No, we work from our Phoenix office and deliver Kansas projects remotely, in your time zone. On-site days are planned when a plant walk or group training is worth the travel. Those days are listed in the scope. Everything else runs over video.
How do we compare Business Central with other ERPs?
Start from your must-have processes, then test each shortlisted system against them with your own data. Our comparison pages cover NetSuite, Acumatica, Epicor and others side by side. We will also tell you when another product fits better. A readiness assessment is a sensible first step if the choice is still open.
