Two mature CRMs with different home ground
Salesforce built its business on CRM and has spent years reaching outward. Sales Cloud sits at the center, then service, marketing, Tableau analytics, MuleSoft integration and Slack for teamwork. Its platform, its AppExchange marketplace and its admin community are the largest in the CRM world.
Dynamics 365 Sales sits inside Microsoft's business applications family. It runs on Dataverse, the same data platform behind Power Apps and Power Automate. Microsoft designed it for use from Outlook and Teams as much as from its own screens. Its strength is how little glue it needs in a company that already lives in Microsoft 365.
Neither is the obvious winner in general. Each is the obvious winner for certain companies.
Feature and platform comparison
Which way the evidence usually points
Salesforce is usually the better choice when
Switching away from a CRM that works rarely pays for itself, and Salesforce's ecosystem is hard to match.
- โYour team already runs Salesforce and it is well adopted
- โCritical add-ons exist only on AppExchange
- โYou use Google Workspace rather than Microsoft 365
- โYou want to hire admins from the largest CRM talent pool
- โYour ERP is not a Microsoft product
Dynamics 365 Sales is usually the better choice when
The advantage comes from sharing data, identity and tools with the rest of your Microsoft estate.
- โBusiness Central is, or will be, your ERP
- โSellers work all day in Outlook and Teams
- โYou already build apps and flows in Power Platform
- โOne Microsoft Entra ID sign-in and security model matters to IT
- โYou want CRM data in the same Power BI model as finance

If Business Central runs your finance
Customers and items stay in sync
Business Central's standard link with Dynamics 365 Sales couples accounts, contacts, products and prices. So sellers quote from the same item list finance invoices from.
Orders flow into the ERP
The CRM can pass its sales orders to Business Central for fulfillment and invoicing. Sellers then see order status and posted invoices without asking the office.
Salesforce can connect too
Business Central exposes APIs, and several connector products link it to Salesforce. That works, but you own an extra product or custom code, and its upkeep, on top of both systems.
Credit and stock in the conversation
Whichever CRM you pick, the valuable data is customer balance, credit limit and item availability. Plan how sellers will see those before choosing, because that shapes the integration effort.
Running a fair evaluation
- 1
Write your sales process down
List the stages, approvals, quoting rules and reports your team actually uses. Features that do not map to this list should not sway the decision.
- 2
Demo with your data
Ask each vendor or partner to show your own pipeline scenario, including how an order reaches your ERP, not a generic script.
- 3
Price the whole picture
Include add-ons, integration, admin time and training for both options, not just the per-user subscription.
- 4
Check adoption risk
Ask the sellers. A CRM they will not open is worse than a less capable one they use every day.
Dynamics 365 Sales and Salesforce FAQ
We already use Salesforce. Should we switch because we chose Business Central?
Not by default. If your team uses Salesforce well and a connector to Business Central meets your needs, keeping it is usually cheaper. Switch when the link keeps causing errors, when renewal is a natural break, or when you want CRM and ERP on one platform. We lay out both paths before you decide.
Is Dynamics 365 Sales harder to use than Salesforce?
Both have a learning curve, and both depend on how you set them up. Dynamics 365 Sales feels familiar to people who live in Outlook and Teams. Salesforce users often praise its polished screens and wide online training. A cluttered setup makes either product painful, so configuration discipline matters more than brand.
Which has better AI for salespeople?
Both vendors ship AI that summarizes records, drafts emails and highlights deals at risk, and both release new capabilities often. Salesforce promotes Agentforce and Einstein, while Microsoft builds on Copilot across Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365. Test the specific scenarios your sellers need in a trial rather than comparing roadmap slides.
Can Dynamics 365 Sales be customized as much as Salesforce?
You customize Dynamics 365 Sales through Dataverse tables, forms, Power Apps and Power Automate, with plug-ins for code. Salesforce uses its own platform with Flow, Apex and Lightning components. Both are highly flexible, and teams can over-customize either one. The better question is which skill set you can hire or rent over the long term.
Do you implement Salesforce?
No. Our work centers on Microsoft products, including Dynamics 365 Sales and Business Central. We can still advise on linking Salesforce to Business Central. And in a Dynamics 365 Sales vs Salesforce choice where Salesforce fits better, we say so.
