BigCommerce and ERP

Business Central BigCommerce integration for retail and wholesale storefronts.

A Business Central BigCommerce integration connects your storefront's catalog, price lists, customers and orders to the ERP that runs your warehouse and ledger. Unlike Shopify, BigCommerce has no Microsoft-published connector, so the choice is between an AppSource app, an integration platform or a custom build on BigCommerce's APIs. Companies using BigCommerce for wholesale through B2B Edition have the most to decide, because company accounts, buyer roles and quotes all need a home in Business Central.

Catalog structure is the first thing to get right

BigCommerce builds variants from product options, such as size and color, while Business Central uses items with optional item variants. Before anything syncs, decide whether each sellable combination is its own item in Business Central or a variant under a parent item. That decision drives costing, reorder points and reporting for years, so it should follow how your warehouse counts stock, not how the storefront displays it.

Pricing needs the same care. BigCommerce price lists can be assigned to customer groups, which maps well onto Business Central price lists for customer price groups. Keep Business Central as the price master and push lists out, and your sales team and your website quote the same number.

B2B Edition features that need an ERP counterpart

Company accounts

Each BigCommerce company should map to one Business Central customer, carrying its payment terms, credit limit and tax status.

Buyer users and roles

Several buyers can order for one company; their orders post to the same customer with the buyer's name kept as a reference.

Quotes

Decide whether quotes are created in the storefront, in Business Central as sales quotes, or in both with one side as master.

Purchase orders and terms

Orders paid on account should arrive as unpaid sales documents against the customer, respecting credit limits before release.

Shared price lists

Contract prices negotiated per account are kept in Business Central and assigned to that company's group in the store.

Invoice portal

If buyers pay invoices online, payments must post back so open balances in Business Central stay correct.

Reorder from history

Buyers reordering past purchases need item numbers that stayed stable, another reason to fix SKUs early.

Sales rep access

Reps ordering on behalf of accounts should be recorded, so commission and territory reporting in Business Central still works.

Choosing a connection method for BigCommerce

Fastest start

AppSource connector

Connectors from several vendors link BigCommerce and Business Central with configurable mappings.

  • βœ“Check B2B Edition support in detail
  • βœ“Confirm multi-storefront handling
  • βœ“Test with your own variant structure
Broader estate

Integration platform

An iPaaS with BigCommerce and Business Central adapters, useful when a CRM, 3PL or marketplace tool is also involved.

  • βœ“One place to watch every flow
  • βœ“Reusable mappings across systems
  • βœ“Separate subscription and ownership
Specific rules

Custom API build

Direct calls to BigCommerce's APIs and webhooks, and to Business Central's APIs or custom API pages.

  • βœ“Fits unusual pricing or allocation logic
  • βœ“Full control of timing and errors
  • βœ“Upkeep stays with you or your partner

Decide these before the first order syncs

  • βœ“Whether web-only customers post to one generic customer or each get their own account
  • βœ“How BigCommerce tax amounts are accepted without Business Central recalculating them
  • βœ“Which G/L accounts receive shipping charges, coupons and gift certificates
  • βœ“How often stock is pushed, and how much buffer is kept back from the web
  • βœ“Who is alerted when an order fails to import, and how it is resent
  • βœ“What happens to orders edited or cancelled in the store after import

BigCommerce integration questions

Is there a Microsoft connector for BigCommerce like the Shopify one?

No, Microsoft publishes a Shopify connector but not a BigCommerce one. BigCommerce integrations come from third-party AppSource apps, integration platforms or custom development. That makes testing a connector against your real catalog and B2B needs more important before you commit.

Can BigCommerce B2B Edition work with Business Central credit limits?

Yes, if the integration is designed for it. Company accounts map to Business Central customers, and orders placed on account arrive as unpaid documents that go through the normal credit check. Some connectors also send the open balance back to the store so buyers see where they stand.

Should inventory sync in real time?

Not always; near real time is enough for most catalogs. Pushing stock on a short schedule, plus immediately when a big change is posted, keeps the storefront accurate without overloading either API. Fast-selling items with thin stock are where tighter timing earns its complexity.

We run several BigCommerce storefronts. Does that change the design?

Yes, each storefront needs its own decisions on price lists, stock sources and customer groups. Many companies post all storefronts into one Business Central company and separate them with dimensions for reporting. Storefronts that belong to different legal entities usually connect to separate companies instead.

What does a BigCommerce integration cost?

It depends on the connection method, the number of storefronts and how much B2B logic is involved, so we do not quote a figure without seeing your setup. The scoping call covers those drivers and we put the scope and price in writing before work starts. Connector and platform subscriptions are priced by their vendors.
