Dynamics 365 Field Service implementation that gets the right technician to the job with the right part
A Dynamics 365 Field Service implementation should cut repeat visits. Every return visit costs a truck roll and a customer's patience. We implement Dynamics 365 Field Service so you schedule jobs by skill and location. Technicians see the asset history on their phone, and you track parts from van to invoice. Billing then flows into the ERP the same day.

Where field service leaks time and money without Dynamics 365
In most service businesses the paperwork travels slower than the van. Someone books jobs by phone onto a whiteboard or a spreadsheet. Technicians arrive without the service history, and nobody records the parts they use. The invoice goes out a week later, if the job sheet makes it back to the office at all.
Dynamics 365 Field Service connects those steps. A case or a maintenance plan creates a work order. The schedule board suggests the best technician by skill, location and availability. The mobile app carries the checklist, asset history and parts list. Finally, a completed job posts parts, time and charges back to finance.

What a Dynamics 365 Field Service implementation sets up
Work orders
Created from cases, from maintenance agreements or by hand, with incident types that pre-fill tasks, parts and duration.
Field service scheduling in Dynamics 365
A schedule board with skills, territories and travel time, and optimization for companies with enough jobs to need it.
Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app
Technicians see jobs, directions, checklists, customer assets and history on phone or tablet, and work offline where signal is poor.
Parts and inventory
Van and warehouse stock, parts used on the job and returns, reconciled with inventory in Business Central.
Assets and agreements
Customer equipment, service history and preventive maintenance plans that generate work orders on schedule.
Billing
Completed work orders turn into invoices in the ERP with labor, parts and travel, without re-keying.
Inspections
Digital inspection forms attached to work orders. Technicians capture readings and pass or fail answers on the device for later reports.
Time entries
Technician hours and expenses recorded against each booking, so labor cost and billable time come from the job itself.
How the Field Service implementation rolls out
- 1
Ride along
We spend time with dispatch and a technician to see how a job really runs, including the workarounds.
- 2
Design
Incident types, territories, skills, agreements and the ERP hand-off agreed in writing.
- 3
Build and pilot
Configuration, mobile app setup and a pilot with a small crew running live jobs.
- 4
Roll out
Remaining technicians trained on the app in short sessions, dispatch trained on the board.
- 5
Tune
After a month we review first-time fix rates, travel and billing lag with you and adjust.
Dynamics 365 Field Service compared with lighter options
Common Dynamics 365 Field Service rollout mistakes
- โLoading every incident type and task template on day one instead of the twenty jobs that make up most work.
- โLaunching the mobile app without testing it on the actual phones and in the actual buildings technicians work in.
- โLeaving parts inventory ownership undecided, so staff adjust stock in two systems and nobody trusts either.
- โBuilding complex automatic scheduling before the dispatcher's manual process is stable and understood.
- โTreating technicians as an afterthought in design sessions, then wondering why technicians close jobs late.
- โMigrating years of messy asset records rather than cleaning the active install base first.
Dynamics 365 Field Service implementation questions
Do technicians need a laptop?
No. The Field Service mobile app runs on iOS and Android phones and tablets as well as Windows devices. It keeps working offline and syncs when the device is back in signal. Technicians see the work order, the asset history, parts and checklists, and can capture a customer signature on site.
Can it work with Business Central?
Yes. Microsoft provides an integration between Field Service and Business Central for items, customers, work order posting and invoicing. Parts and time recorded on a completed work order flow to Business Central, so finance can bill without rekeying anything. We test that flow end to end before go-live.
Is it only for large fleets?
No. Teams of a handful of technicians benefit from work orders, the mobile app and billing. Resource Scheduling Optimization, which plans assignments and routes automatically, is licensed as an add-on and starts to pay off with larger fleets. Many firms begin with manual dispatch on the schedule board and add it later.
How do we price the licenses?
Microsoft publishes Field Service licensing on its website, and it changes over time, so check the current plan details there. Different user roles may need different licenses, and add-ons such as automated scheduling may be separate. Ask your partner for a quote built on named roles rather than a headcount estimate.
What does the implementation involve?
It usually covers work order types and incident templates, service territories and resources, the schedule board, the mobile app, agreements, and integration with finance. Data migration of customers, assets and active contracts is a significant piece. We put the scope in writing after a scoping call, because the effort depends heavily on your processes and integrations.
