Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain

Finance and Operations, for groups that have outgrown a mid-market ERP

Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, often called Finance and Operations, is Microsoft's ERP for larger and more complex businesses. It is powerful and it is a bigger undertaking than Business Central. We help you decide honestly which one you need, and implement it if the answer is Finance and Operations.

Business Central or Finance and Operations?

Both are Microsoft ERP systems, both run in the cloud and both connect to the same Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tools. The difference is scale and depth. Finance and Operations handles many legal entities with shared services, advanced warehouse management, complex manufacturing modes, global tax and regulatory requirements and very high transaction volumes.

That depth comes with a longer implementation, a larger team and higher licence costs. Plenty of companies with a few hundred employees run perfectly well on Business Central. We start by testing whether your requirements genuinely need Finance and Operations, and we will tell you if they do not.

Finance and Operations questions

Is Finance and Operations the same as Dynamics AX?

It is AX's successor. Microsoft moved AX to the cloud and split it into Finance, Supply Chain Management and related applications.

Can we start on Business Central and move later?

Yes, and many companies do. It is a re-implementation rather than an upgrade, so the decision is worth making carefully, which is why we look at it during scoping.
